The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band formed in Southern California during the spring of 1966 as a scruffy, young jug-band. Forty-two years later, the quartet (Jeff Hanna, Jimmie Fadden, Bob Carpenter and John McEuen) is still going strong.
Foghat began their career in 1971 with an affection for American blues and '50s rock 'n' roll. They evolved into a major touring and recording act, playing a pumped-up brand of boogie-rock to arena-size audiences. Their looks grew flashier, yet the roots-rock core of the band remained ever-present under the surface.
Poco, founded in 1968 by Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Richie Furay, virtually invented the “country rock” genre. “Pickin’ Up the Pieces,” received the rare 5-star designation in Dave Marsh’s “Rolling Stone Record Guide.”
